a woman in a bathing suit running into the ocean

Sofia Fariole

I surrender breathlessly
To summer’s embrace
Rays of light
Brushing my face

Pillow-soft sand
A stowaway in my swimsuit
Cooking in the sun
Burning my feet

I run to the water
Seashells slicing each stride
Wind whipping my hair
A breathless ambition

I fall apart
As I reach the ocean
Diving down
In one swift motion

I let the sea
Swallow my soul
To drown out the world
I surrender control
