Shadow-box still life with Ouija board, artifacts, potions and shells

Paul Melkonian

In response to a box assemblage of the same name by Natalie Boburka
of Greenville, New York (digital image of the box assemblage above)

Come into my shop of misfit toys
Come in and I’ll treat what ails ya
Step up to the counter, girls and boys
Pick yer poison–my potions won’t fail ya

Sick on the inside, or sick on the out
Or sick in a general way
I’ve a tonic or two, tepid foul brew
That’ll treat whatever drama you play

If it’s magical flaws that you suffer
I’ll resort to a mystical ablation
Sit by the fire. Don’t touch my cat!
While I translate this otherworldly ‘cantation

Yer not the first to come in here
To seek divine emancipation
And you won’t be the last
Ya people give me no time for vacation!
