Jericho

By Sam Sweikata

You have shown me a world that exists

Within our own existence.

To the naked eye, nothing looks out of place.

If I look hard enough sometimes I can see

The pieces of the stars that have fallen.

You took the hand of a blind being

And led them into a room

Covered in colored glass. Inside

The blind learned to see through

The eyes that brought them.

You have eyes like the sea.

The ocean is my favorite place

In the mortal world. Your eyes are

The seas that shape the earth and

You are the water I want to drown in.

Don’t be deceived by these beautiful words.

Word can lead us into trouble; they can lie.

You are the bringer of light and hope,

But you are also a fool. You showed me

The beauty in the things I have to take.
